CaptureStudio / Getting Started
For new users

How do I get started?

From launching the app to your first finished recording — in six short steps. No editing software required.

1 · Launch CaptureStudio

CaptureStudio ships as a standalone .exe for x64 — just download and run (see Installation & Configuration). No installation, no administrator rights required.

2 · Create a project

Give it a name via "+ New Project". Every recording made for this project will be kept together in project management afterwards.

3 · Pick a recording target

Use the window picker to choose the full screen or a specific open window. Optionally enable the speaker video (camera + microphone).

4 · Record

"⏺ Start recording" begins the capture — the floating control bar shows the timer, lets you mute the microphone, and cleanly stops the recording with one click.

5 · Review the preview

After stopping, the preview shows the screen and speaker video as a draggable picture-in-picture. If the take worked, keep it — otherwise discard it right away and record again.

6 · Export or archive

The recording stays saved in the project, or export it as a standalone folder with combined.html and share it — even with colleagues who don't have CaptureStudio.

Good to know

Multiple recordings, one project

Managing recordings

A project can hold any number of recordings — e.g. one per tutorial chapter or customer bug report. Project management lets you switch between them; each recording can be played, exported, or deleted individually.

Discard a failed take right away

If, say, the microphone was accidentally muted or the take didn't go as planned, discard it right in the preview — instead of keeping an unusable file in the project and cleaning it up manually later.

💡

Tip: The control bar stays visible on top during recording — so you can mute the microphone briefly at any time without interrupting the recording.
