Installation & Configuration

Everything you need for the initial setup of CaptureStudio — from first launch to license activation.

Requirements

CaptureStudio runs on Windows (x64) and is published as a standalone, self-contained single-file EXE — no .NET runtime, no installation, and no administrator rights required, just download and run.

Where projects & settings are stored

Projects, recordings, and settings are stored under %AppData%\CaptureStudio — your Windows user account's application data. There is no cloud sync; all files stay local on the machine running CaptureStudio.

Core piece

Setting up camera & microphone

In settings (⚙ button), choose which camera and microphone to use for the speaker recording — along with the desired video quality (Low/Medium/High) and frame rate. Encoding uses Media Foundation as H.264/AAC.

💡

Optional: Without a selected camera or microphone, plain screen recording keeps working normally — the speaker video simply stays disabled.

Speaker overlay: position & size

Settings let you choose which corner of the screen (four positions) and which size (three sizes) the speaker video is displayed at during recording and preview.

Default storage location for new projects

The storage location for new projects can be changed in the general settings — existing projects are unaffected.

Click highlighting

Also in settings: click highlighting can be turned on or off, and the desired style (ring, filled circle, ripple, dot, crosshair) selected.

After the trial

License activation

CaptureStudio can be fully tried for 14 days. Once the trial ends, saving new recordings is locked — recording and preview remain usable. A per-workstation access code (tied to a hardware fingerprint of your device) unlocks CaptureStudio permanently; activation happens online via the INSPIRED SOFTWARE license server.

⚠️

Redeeming an access code: You receive the access code after purchase; activation is tied to the specific device and can be transferred to a new device on request.
